Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, after graduating from the University of Illinois, an emerging interest in food and wine opened the door to my career and life in the wine and food world. Wholesale, retail, restaurant sommelier and corporate wine director positions led to co-founding and directing the portfolio and marketing at Vin Divino, a national, fine wine importing company based in Chicago. During my tenure at Vin Divino, while primarily focused to Italian estates, I was one of the key players responsible for the emergence of quality, Austrian wine in the U.S.
Along the exciting ride of my wine career, I received a James Beard award nomination for food and wine journalism and contributed wine notes for nationally distributed cook books. Over the years, I have enthusiastically dined at the top restaurants throughout Europe and the U.S, done amateur stints in the kitchens of some of the top restaurants in the U.S. In further pursuit of my passion for the culinary arts, I continue to work as a private chef when my wine schedule allows.
"I have know Marty for 25 years of promoting and romancing estate grown wines. His selection of wines are always unique, hard to find gems. I carry his wines and I consider him an ambassador for artisanal wine. Cheers to you Marty!"
Piero Selvaggio, Valentino Restaurant Group
"I have had the pleasure of being involved in the import and distribution of Singular Selections wines for many years. Marty has a unique ability to locate unbelievable producers from all over the world; small, artisan wineries that are family-run and have a passion for making wines of distinction and place. Everybody likes Moscato. But when you taste Singular Selections' Moscato it transports you to an entire different plane of tastes, textures and depth. That is the hallmark of all of Marty's selections; they are wines of purpose, place and pleasure not easily found in today's brand-driven marketplace."
