Comelli Paolino
Colloredo di Soffumbergo, Friuli

The entire Comelli Family share a simple model for life: respect for the land and tradition, courage to innovate, and the essential conviction that the search for quality is the ultimate goal of one's work.

The Comelli property extends for 12 hectares in the Denominazione di Origine Controllata Zone of "Friuli Colli Orientali" in the small town of Colloredo di Soffumbergo.

The vineyards, planted in the hills surrounding the winery, are exposed to the positive effects of the Adriatic Sea to the South and are protected by the Julian Alps to the North. The striking, day to night, diurnal, temperature range, which is a characteristic of the area's micro-climate is essential to the singular quality of Comelli's wines.

The terroir is composed of marnoso-arenacea rocks of eocene origins - is rich in chalk, potassium and small amounts of phosphorous and magnesium.

Combining a limited density per hectare - fixed at 4,500 vines - with a guyot growth system and a vine layout created to favor the quality of single bunches of grapes, sacrificing quantity (2.5 meters between rows; 80 centimeters between plans), we grow healthy grapes keeping intervention in the vineyards to the minimum.

The new, state of the art, wine making facility and cellar, introduced in 2006 are organized into four sections, respectively dedicated to steel, fermentation tanks, French-oak barrels, the bottling line and a temperature controlled, aging room.

Sauvignon Blanc 2015

The Comelli Sauvignon displays a straw-yellow color with green reflections. It reveals tropical aromas of passion fruit and mango, together with hints of mint and tomato leaf. It is striking intense and concentrated on the palate with a noble mouth feel and a long, refreshing finish.

Total production: 600 cases

Pignolo 2010 (Limited)

Pignolo is a rustic, indigenous, Friulian varietal that was nearly extinct. Comelli's Pignolo displays a bright ruby red color that turns garnet-red with age. The nose is complex, with berries, plums, violet and blackberry aromas and light, spicy notes. After aging in oak barrels, it acquires hints of cocoa, coffee and vanilla. The palate is rounded and full-bodied with great personality and precise, rich tannins.

Total production: 100 cases
